They are available at the beauty stores within your area or you can make an order for it on online stores such as Konga, Jumia, or some other fashion online stores. Make sure you never share or borrow needles with anyone else, because if you do, it can easily lead to infection. Safety pin too can be used to pierce the ear, it provide better grip compared to needles.
Buy Starter Earrings: A set of starter earrings are needed once the ear as been pierced. The starter earring has a pointed tip and a wider gauge special designed for newly pierced ears. Its wide range and pointed tip make it easier to insert and allow the starter earring to stretch into the holes, so as to help the pierced ear heal to the right size. You can get surgical steel earrings or medical grade titanium if possible because it contains least amount of nickel, which are common allergen. Some other good options are pure gold and silver. Make sure you avoid cheap earrings because they contain high quantities of nickel and this can cause infections and allergic reactions.
Sterilize The Piercing Tools: If you are using a safety pin, or the piercing needle you bought does not come in a sterile packaging, you are advised to sterilize them thoroughly before using them. You can sterilize the needle by using a lighter to flame the needle for about ten seconds. Then allow the needle to cool slightly and wipe it down with hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol. Leave the need needle on a piece of tissue to dry and ensure not to touch piercing end at this point. You have to understand that this process will not sterilize the needle 100%, there will still contain at least a few bacteria left. Buying Pre-sterilized products are the only way to guarantee a complete sterilization.
Clean The Ear And Mark A Definite Spot: After sterilizing your piercing tools, thoroughly clean the ear to remove any bacteria from the surface of the skin. Dip a cotton ball (Cotton Board or Qtips) into hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol and use it to clean the front and back of your earlobe. Allow the ear to dry completely before proceeding to pierce the ear. Use a marker to indicate the spot you will like to pierce. This will help you center your needle on your ear and also prevent you from piercing the wrong spot.
Wash Your Hands Or Wear Latex Glove: Ensure your hands are properly washed with anti-bacterial soap (Dettol, Delta, Tetmosol, Premier cool or any imported anti-bacterial soap) so as to avoid holding the already sterilized tools with dirty hands. You can also put on a latex glove too Which is mostly advisable.
Position Your Needle And Pierce The Ear: Pick up your piercing needle and place it against the marked surface on your earlobe, centering it at a 90-degree angle. In one smooth and fluid movement, push the needle through the earlobe. You will feel a sharp pinch on your but it won’t be really painful. Leave the piercing needle in the ear for about 30 seconds and wiggle it around gently, this will help widen the hole.
Insert The Starter Earrings: After piercing the ear, inserting the earring will be easy. You will slide the pointing tips of the earring into the hollow center of the needle, then pull out the needle leaving the earring in the ear. Clean away any blood with a cotton ball, and then secure the back of the earring with a stopper. The same procedure should be done to the other ear too.
